August Blues is a month long Bluefish tournament held on Nantucket that will begin August 1 and end August 31. Bluefish are a voracious predator local to the waters of Nantucket. If you have fished the shores here, you know them well and the strength and power they possess.
August Blues was created to offer a summer fishing tournament to locals and island visitors alike. Whether you live here year round or only visit for a few days, this tournament is for you. A chance to win great prizes whether you catch 100 fish or only 1. Backed by great sponsors, there will be plenty of prizes to go around in this summer classic.
Welcome to August Blues! Nantucket Island's newest fishing tournament, where the main event is...Bluefish! This tournament is not just about the thrill of the competition, it’s about bringing together a community for a worthwhile cause.
August Blues is the brainchild of Greg, our island's oral surgeon. When he's not healing smiles, Greg can be found on the water, engaging in the age-old dance between angler and fish. This tournament now in its second year proudly carries the name of his son, August, a young man with a contagious smile who is living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
DMD is a disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Despite the challenges presented by this condition, August continues to exhibit a spirit that is nothing short of inspiring. Look for him blazing a trail on the island's bike paths in his power chair, hanging with his pals at the local car wash, volunteering at Nantucket High School, or advocating for all people with disabilities as a member of the Commission on Disability. If you see him, don't forget to honk and say hi!
In the spirit of unity and resilience, the August Blues tournament is more than a fishing competition––it's a collective effort in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Every entry fee, every sponsorship, and every bluefish caught supports this mission, as all proceeds are directly channeled to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, a dedicated non-profit focused on finding a cure for this disease.
Join us for the thrill of the competition, enjoy the camaraderie of fellow anglers, and contribute to a meaningful cause. With August Blues, we're casting our lines for a brighter future––one where Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a thing of the past. Be part of our story today.
